Presenting the Svitanok Society's 2018 year-end concert: Around the Corner / Au coin de la rue / Незвичайне поруч Featuring the Ottawa School of Ukrainian Dance with guest performances by the Svitanok Ensemble and other surprise artists! ...discovery awaits, unexpected - unusual - new ways be surprised! be astonished! opportunity lies just around the corner; have fun and embrace the change... Tickets: centrepointetheatre.ca  Come join the Svitanok Ensemble at its open rehearsal! Watch and get a feel of what it's really like in the studio - get a behind-the-scenes glimpse into all that goes into practicing and preparing for performance. Warm-ups, technique, tricks, solos, character, and choreography! Afterwards, stay for refreshments and entertainment at our Donor Reception where the Svitanok Society recognizes and shows its great appreciation for all of its donors. Our donors provide us with huge support and allow us to continue to share our passion for Ukrainian dance. Open Rehearsal: Free of charge and open to all! Donor Reception: Free for donors; $10 for non-donors (price includes 2 drink tickets)  On January 13th, the Svitanok Ensemble will be performing in the National Arts Centre's newly-renovated lobby as part of the Family Adventures with the NAC Orchestra concert series. This series features pre- and post-concert activities, also known as “TUNETOWN” (or “DORÉMIVILLE” in French). Catch our shows at 12:45 and 2:45pm! They are free and open to the public. In between, the NAC Orchestra and Enchantment Theatre Company perform The Firebird in Southam Hall.  August 24th is Ukraine's Independence Day, and this year, Svitanok will be celebrating at A Day in Ukraine! This event will display a fusion of ethnic and contemporary culture through a day-long exhibition. The Embassy of Ukraine in Canada / Посольство України в Канаді is presenting this culture-filled day at Landsowne Park as part of the Ottawa Welcomes the World 2017 programming. The Svitanok Ensemble is performing in both the day and evening programs. We're thrilled to share the stage with other amazing artists from Canada and Ukraine. A Day in UA is sure to be a unique and incredible event! Come see both the Svitanok Ensemble and OSUD classes perform at the third annual Capital Ukrainian Festival! We'll be on the main stage on all three festival days along with many other talented performers from Canada, the U.S., and Ukraine. See our performance times below.  Svitanok onstage at the Capital Ukrainian Festival in 2016 On Canada Day, the Svitanok Ensemble will perform at the official opening of the Canadian History Hall at the Canadian Museum of History (photo). We're thrilled to celebrate Canada 150 and this groundbreaking exhibit with a commissioned piece and to represent the richness that Ukrainian Canadians have always contributed to Canada.  The Canadian History Hall tells the history of Canada and its people from the dawn of human habitation to the present. Through authentic artifacts and compelling stories, the Hall explores the events, personalities and historical currents that have shaped and continue to shape this country. (historyhall.ca)
The touch of a mother's hand, the protective embrace of a father, the comfort of sitting quietly next to someone you love...these moments are fleeting and often eclipsed by the distractions of our busy lives. These are the moments we will long for again after the passage of time. Let us be grateful for ordinary moments as they happen and recognize them as the extraordinary wonders of today. Join us at Centrepointe Theatre on Saturday, June 3rd for our 2017 year-end concert - " The Wonder of Today ." Svitanok is looking forward to performing at the SUSK: Ukrainian Canadian Students' Union Congress zabava. Held at Lago Bar and Grill overlooking Dow's Lake, the event will bring together Ukrainian Canadian students and others from across the country to celebrate their accomplishments as well as Canada's 150th anniversary year. Afterwards, guests will dance to music from Hloptsi Z Mista (Хлопці з Міста) from Toronto. Tickets: national.coordinator@susk.ca  Experience Ukrainian dance in Canada's capital! Join us at the Svitanok Ukrainian Dance Ensemble's open rehearsal on Sunday, April 9th. All are welcome to come and have the opportunity to see what a Svitanok rehearsal looks like! Get a first-hand glimpse into what the Ensemble has been working on, including new choreography, and feel the unique and artistic spirit of Ukrainian dance in Ottawa. Admission is free, and you're welcome to stay afterwards for a wine and cheese reception in honour of our society's valued donors!  |
