The Festival runs from 12pm-11pm on November 30th and admission is free. The Ottawa School of Ukrainian Dance presents its first Podorozh! Journey with OSUD! workshop of the year! Oleh But of Kyiv, Ukraine - a researcher, teacher, and preserver of Ukrainian village dance - will teach traditional Ukrainian village dances and give insight into their origins and their role in the development of staged Ukrainian dance.
Oleh But is the leader of the Buttya ensemble, a traditional Ukrainian musical group started in 2000 and made up of the But family. The group has been instrumental in reviving traditional village folk dances in Ukraine by holding weekly dance classes in Kyiv through their "School of Traditional Dance," travelling extensively to festivals, and making dance instruction available through videos and their online database. They've reintroduced many participants to the folk music and dance of daily Ukrainian country life that has been largely unrepresented and have made great efforts to honour the authenticity of the original sources of their music. The ensemble performs both instrumental and vocal musical pieces, including many tunes for dancing, traditional wedding tunes, lyrical songs, comical songs, ballads, and winter ritual songs. Ottawa School of Ukrainian Dance 2019-2020 registration is OPEN! Register for our Children/Youth Programme or for our Adult Programme. We're so excited to welcome you to an exciting, engaging, dynamic new dance season at OSUD.
For registration details, visit our Register page. Come see the Svitanok Ensemble perform Hopak and partake in the Unity Dance at The Great India Festival on August 9th, at 6:30pm. The Festival takes place from August 9-11 at Ottawa City Hall.
