COVID-19 Protocols

at the ottawa school of ukrainian dance
The Ottawa School of Ukrainian Dance (OSUD) has established the following COVID-19 protocols to help ensure the health and safety of its students, teachers, and families.

Conditions of Registration (Before the First Class)

  • All registrations must be completed through OSUD's online registration system before the student's first class. OSUD will contact you to confirm class choice and registration. You will be provided with any necessary details once registered.
  • Every student must agree to the Release of Liability and Assumption of Risk waiver provided by OSUD prior to entering the building for their first class.
  • We require all students, members of the teaching team, and volunteers 12 years of age and older to be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 to participate in classes with the Ottawa School of Ukrainian Dance. As of February 6, 2022, students aged 5-11 years are required to have received their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine to be eligible to participate in OSUD classes at The School of Dance with the expectation that completion of the second dose will be reported to us as soon as possible.
  • All registration and general communications with OSUD will be completed electronically or by phone.

Arriving at the Studio

Before entering
  • Dance studios are sanitized and reset between classes and entrances/exits are staggered in order to ensure physical distancing protocols are met.
  • Only OSUD students and teachers may enter the building. All individuals must be masked to enter the building and remain masked until exit.
  • Students will enter The School of Dance through the main front doors.
  • All individuals entering the building will be screened at the entrance in order to verbally confirm that they are asymptomatic and to satisfy contact tracing requirements. We will follow the entrance screening protocol required by the Office of the Chief Medical Officer of Health of Ontario. Please use this protocol to complete a self-assessment prior to arriving at the studio.
  • Entry will be denied to any individual presenting with the outlined symptoms or answering "yes" to any of the screening questions. Individuals denied entry will be asked to return back home immediately and to contact their health care provider for further instructions.
  • Students will be invited to enter the building 15 minutes before class time. Parents/guardians are advised to wait with their student outside the entrance doors spaced out at intervals of 2 metres or to wait in their car.

Personal belongings
  • All students must arrive already in their dance attire with dance shoes in a separate bag, hair done, and minimal extra items. Dance tights/socks are a requirement as bare feet are not allowed in the building at any time. See our School Dress Code page for dress code details for all classes.
  • All students require their own rolled yoga mat for floorwork. One yoga mat per couple for the partnered You and Me class is enough. Pre-filled water bottles may also be brought into the building as water fountains will not be in use.
  • All students from Junior class and up must be able to put on their dance shoes unassisted while waiting in their designated spots in the building before class begins.

After entering
  • Upon entering the building, students will be asked to disinfect their hands and will be provided with a plastic bag for all their personal belongings (shoes, coats, dance bags, etc.).
  • Students will then be directed to a distanced space marker in the hallway near their dance studio.
  • Personal belonging bags will be placed to the side in the dance studio during class as directed by the teacher.

During Class

  • Students are asked to stay in their designated spots at all times as directed by their teacher.
  • If a student needs to use the washroom they must be able to manage unassisted (unless attending the You & Me class with an adult partner) and will be asked to sanitize their hands again upon re-entering the studio.
  • If any student begins to exhibit symptoms or feels unwell while in the building, they will immediately be asked to wait in a designated space until their emergency contact arrives to bring them back home. Emergency contacts must arrive within 15 minutes of receiving this phone call.

After Class

  • At the end of class, students will collect their plastic personal belonging bags and exit back into the hallway onto one of the distanced space markers in order to put outside clothing back on before exiting the building. Students will bring home the plastic personal belonging bags for disposal.
  • Students will exit the building through the Keefer side doors (also exiting onto Crichton St.). Parents/guardians are asked to meet their students on Crichton St. near the Keefer side exit doors after class at the designated time. OSUD will ensure all Junior and Intermediate level students exit the building safely and reach a parent/guardian. All Senior, Advanced, and Honours students will be directed to exit from the building independently at their designated time.
Thank you for reading and understanding our COVID-19 protocols.
They allow us to dance together in person!
